The Yale Broadcast Center offers a variety of audio and video services. A number of our services are offered at no cost to the content creator, while the remainder of services can be secured at a competitive fee.

Live Studio Broadcast Services

The YBMC’s full-service television and radio facilities have become a critical resource for news journalists from around the world who regularly seek studio-to-studio interviews with Yale-affiliated experts. Working closely with the University’s Office of Public Affairs & Communications, our broadcast team is able to respond quickly to the demands of the 24-hour news cycle.
 
Video
We regularly complete live satellite feeds to major networks such as CNN, BBC, NBC, CNBC, MSNBC, ABC and CBS.
 
Cost For Yale-affiliated TV studio feed (7 am – 7 pm): Free
Cost For Yale-affiliated TV studio feed (7 pm – 7 am): $1000
Cost For Yale-affiliated TV studio feed (Saturday & Sunday): $1500
Cost for non-Yale TV studio feed (8 am – 5 pm): $800
Audio
Our digital radio studio stages live interviews between Yale faculty and radio networks such as NPR, the BBC, the CBC and other international outlets.
 
Cost For Yale-affiliated ISDN studio feed (7 am – 7 pm): Free
Cost For Yale-affiliated ISDN studio feed (7 pm – 7 am): $150 per hour
Cost For Yale-affiliated ISDN studio feed (weekend): $350 per hour
Cost for non-Yale ISDN studio feed (8 am – 5 pm): $150 per hour
 

Audio Production

Yale University Audio podcasts delivered through Yale’s official public iTunes U and/or SoundCloud channels.

Cost: Free
The Yale Broadcast Center is pleased to offer audio production services for all podcasts intended for the University’s public distribution channels at no cost to the content creator.
 
The services offered at no cost to the content creator include the actual audio recording and up to 30 minutes of post-production work. An audio producer/engineer is also provided for free.

Use of audio recording facilities for other projects
Cost: $100 per hour
 
If you need to have an audio recording for any reason other than the University’s iTunes U channel, the audio studio can be secured for $100 per hour.
 
The fee includes the use of the actual equipment and an audio engineer/producer. Any post-production work will also be billed at $100 per hour.
 

Video Production

On-campus class recording
If you wish to have one of your classes video recorded, please click here to submit the request. The Yale Broadcast & Media Center will provide one camera person, including all necessary equipment. We will then work with you to provide access to the file in any format that meets your needs, be it online streaming or DVD.
 
Monday – Friday, 8 am – 8 pm
Production Cost: $100 per hour
Post-Production Cost: $100 per hour
 
Monday – Friday, 8 am – 8 pm, If we have less than 24 hours notice:
Production Cost: $125 per hour
Post-Production Cost: $125 per hour
 
Monday – Friday, 8 pm – 8 am, Saturday & Sunday all day
Production Cost: $100 per hour, minimum of 4 hours.
Post-Production Cost: $100 per hour, minimum of 4 hours.
 
Please note: If we capture your content on the weekend, but do the post-production work during normal business hours then the usual $100 per hour rate applies to the post-production work.
 
Recording your public lecture or event
If you wish to have one of your public events video recorded, please click here to submit the request. The Yale Broadcast Center will provide one camera person, including all necessary equipment. We will contact you once we receive the request to discuss the project in greater detail as some projects might require the use of more than one camera. We will then work with you to provide access to the file in any format that meets your needs, be it online streaming or DVD.
 
You should also be aware that the Office of Digital Dissemination administers Yale’s presence at numerous third-party destinations such as YouTube and iTunes U. Once we receive your request, we will also speak with you about the possibility to distribute your event more broadly. For videos intended to be shared publicly, the Yale Broadcast & Media Center will perform up to 30 minutes of post-production at no cost to the content creator.

Studio Productions at 135 College Street
The Yale Broadcast Center includes “Studio A” – an 1,800-square-foot mini sound stage and television production space. This space can accommodate small and large scale productions and up to three HD cameras. Examples of productions that can be created in this space include “The MacMillan Report” and the “Bicentennial Spotlight” from the Yale School of Medicine.
 
It is important to note that studio productions are unique, so it’s hard to give you a total ballpark estimate without knowing the project you have in mind. If you’d like to speak with us about your project to receive a budget estimate, please contact us with information.
 
We charge $100 per hour per resource for all phases of studio production. Please keep in mind that some productions will require multiple members of our production team.

  • Consultation to refine story concept or messaging goals and select appropriate media format
  • Storyboarding and script writing assistance
  • Location scouting and/or set design
  • Talent scouting, auditioning and casting
Production and post-production:
  • On and off-site video and audio recording
  • Motion graphic design (i.e., for typography, titling and animated graphics), and post-production editing
  • Duplication and distribution via any media format, including CD, DVD, and streaming video on the web
 

Video Field Production

The award winning Yale Broadcast team can produce documentary, education, and communication media in virtually any format, using existing material or by recording either at our studios or off-site.
